This week, Through the Gates speaks with sociopolitical comedian W. Kamau Bell. Bell visited campus to give the keynote address at IU’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Leadership Breakfast.

In this episode, Bell discusses race, change and awkward conversations with host Janae Cummings. Bell is best known for his Emmy-nominated CNN series United Shades of America. He hosts multiple podcasts and is the author of The Awkward Thoughts of W. Kamau Bell: Tales of a 6’4, African American, Heterosexual, Cisgender, Left-Leaning, Asthmatic, Black and Proud Blerd, Mama’s Boy, Dad, and Stand-Up Comedian.

Through the Gates is a joint project between The Media School, the IU Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President and IU Newsroom. Media School dean James Shanahan is one of the hosts of the series.
