Student media outlets collaborate on conference

More than a dozen student media organizations are collaborating on a student media conference and showcase.

Voices of IU will take place from 4:30-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, in Franklin Hall and will feature live broadcasts, faculty-led panel discussions on media topics, band performances, workshops, information tables and tours of student media facilities.


4:30 p.m.: WIUX goes live, first band performance begins
5:15 p.m.: Opening remarks in the commons by D’Angelo King, WIUX news director, and Jim Shanahan, Media School dean
5:30 p.m.: “Fake News” panel in the Beckley Studio
6 p.m.: Live band performance
6:10 p.m.: “Women in the Media” panel in the Beckley Studio
6:40 p.m.: Live band performance
6:50 p.m.: “Sports” panel in the WIUX studio
7:20 p.m.: Live band performance
7:30 p.m.: “People of Color in the Media” panel in the Beckley Studio
8 p.m.: Live band performance
8:10 p.m.: “LGBT in the Media” panel in the Beckley Studio
8:40 p.m.: Live band performance
9:10 p.m.: Closing remarks

All panels will be broadcast on the commons screen. Workshops will take place from 6-8 p.m. and will be 30 minutes each.
