Incoming freshman wins YJI 2018 Student Journalist of the Year

Incoming freshman Evelyn Sanchez has won Youth Journalism International‘s 2018 Student Journalist of the Year award. YJI’s mission is to connect “student writers, artists and photographers with peers around the globe, teaches journalism, fosters cross-cultural understanding, and promotes and defends a free youth press.”Every year, YJI sponsors a world-wide contest for reporting, cartooning, and photography in English for students 19 and under.

Sanchez, who is planning to study journalism, is a senior at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, and the award is the highest anyone in student publications at Ben Davis has ever won.
