City Church Pastoral Leader Seth Pate shares religious journey

Candace Buggs, pastoral leader at City Church, uses the story of Jonathon to describe Pastor Seth Pate. Jonathon was a guy who could be king but he set that aside so the right person could be.

“He’s so gifted and talented,” she said. “He could go and work anywhere and make great money, but he has been willing to say, “I’m down for what we are doing here,” and laid his life out for God and for the church.”

Personel experience challenges regular interviewing technique

Receiving this assignment did not scare me, I have been involved in journalism since high school and have had lots of practice. I have never been afraid to talk to random people because I am a photographer and I have to do that a lot with my job. This assignment was different. I never had to go up to random people to interview them and I wasn’t prepared.

The next morning I set out on Kirkwood to find people before the rain. I talked to multiple people that didn’t want to be interviewed on the subject. This discouraged me. I thought I was asking very thoughtful questions about the current homelessness community in Bloomington.

Bloomington residents say religious inclusiveness is not as well known

Bloomington is known as an inclusive community but not so being religiously inclusive or active, according to four residents randomly interviewed on Kirkwood Avenue on Feb. 20.

 All agreed Bloomington strives to be inclusive of all races and sexual orientations but isn’t making the same strides in religious inclusiveness. But some disagreed on the activeness of the community.

Amelia Herrick
Amelia Herrick is currently a junior studying journalism with a specialization in photojournalism. Last summer she traveled to Uganda with the Media School, where she interned at the Daily Monitor covering HIV/AIDS. While in Uganda she covered grandmothers, who raise their grandchildren because their parents died of HIV. She currently works with Inside Indiana and IU Communications as a part time photographer. She is also a member of Indiana University Student Foundation and Association of Women in Sports Media. After graduation Amelia plans to move out west and work for a local paper.
