Grants for Students
HSJI offers two types of financial assistance: those that provide funds for students to attend HSJI workshops and those that recognize students who do outstanding work during their workshops.
Grants to attend HSJI
Both HSJI and Indiana University define “multicultural” as people of different cultures, languages, ethnicities, races, religions, socio-economic status or gender. In that spirit, High School Journalism Institute offers Multicultural Scholarships for students interested in investigating media careers, improving their journalistic skills or sampling campus life at Indiana University by attending HSJI.

Scholarships upon completion of HSJI
The awards ceremony held the last day of each workshop provides an opportunity to recognize students who excelled during Institute. Those who demonstrate a passion for journalism receive $400-$500 grants to attend Indiana University the following fall. College scholarships will be presented by IU Media School, the Indiana Daily Student, IU’s Arbutus yearbook and the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. Some are general scholarships, while others are for students intending to major in journalism after high school.
Students do not have to apply for or complete any paperwork in advance for these scholarships. The application process is conducted during the HSJI workshops.
