In addition to its home in the renovated Franklin Hall, The Media School has offices and studios in the Radio and Television building, a digital infrastructure recently upgraded with new wiring, wireless networking and broadband cable. Integrated digital signals can be distributed internally and externally to other locations on the Bloomington campus, to other IU campuses, and via fiber and satellite to the state and beyond.

Studio 5 is a 2,800-square-foot teaching studio that recently underwent a $1 million renovation. Features include:

Studio 5 Control Room

Studio 6, used by WTIU public television, was converted to full high definition in late 2006 and is one of the few teaching facilities in the entire country with this capability. Features include:

  • Thompson LDK-4000 HD digital studio cameras
  • 30-foot Jimmy Jib
  • Teleprompters
  • Grass Valley Kayak DD digital switcher
  • Chyron Duet CG
  • Digital disk recording and playback
  • Full complement of studio equipment

The Production Lab, a workspace with equipment checkout and Macintosh workstations, is available for class projects. This lab can be reached at 812-855-7855 and is open seven days a week, with some exceptions for holidays and breaks.

The Production Lab features:

  • HD camcorders and a full complement of lighting, audio and support equipment
  • Forty Macintosh production stations
  • Adobe CC Software, including Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects, Audition
  • Eight ProTools workstations
  • Sixteen Avid Media Composer workstations
  • Four isolated editing PCs with connectivity to Blackmagic Design UltraScope
  • Music and graphics elements libraries

A separate studio includes:

  • 7.1 digital audio
  • Two sound editing bays
  • Space for viewing, auditions, Skyping with industry professionals

Additional facilities and resources:

  • Access to the DaVinci Lab, Fine Arts 215, which houses high-end computer graphics resources including Macintosh and Silicon Graphics workstations with peripherals
